When purchasing a firearm from City Armory, you'll need:
- A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID (like a North Carolina driver's license).
- A valid North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit (NCCHP)
- Proof of North Carolina residency (if not shown on ID).
- You must be at least 21 for handguns, and 18 for long guns.
- You must be allowed to own a firearm under federal and state law.
You'll also complete a background check (NICS) and fill out ATF Form 4473 at the time of purchase.
The ATF states, “All buyers must complete Form 4473 and undergo a NICS background check unless exempt (e.g., having a valid NC concealed handgun permit).”
Most purchases are completed same-day, assuming the background check clears instantly. If you have a valid North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit, you can be done as soon as you complete the 4473 and pay for the firearm. Delays can occur if the NICS check is marked for further review, which may take up to 3 business days.
At checkout, choose In-Store Pickup as your fulfillment method. You’ll get an email when your order is ready at our Wake Forest location. Bring a government-issued photo ID and the payment card used for the order. For firearms, we’ll complete the Form 4473 and background check in store.
